“But strange things do happen in tennis and today's match was one of them”

A New Year's exhibition match in Seoul between Maria Sharapova and Lindsay Davenport has been cancelled due to the latter's pregnancy, an organizer said Wednesday.

The two world-class players were due to clash on the first day of 2007 in Seoul.

"Early this morning, we were notified from the agent for Davenport that she cannot play the exhibition match because of her pregnancy," Lee Seung-hwan, the president of sports marketing company Sema Sports, told Yonhap News Agency. "Because of the short notice, we have decided to cancel the event."

The company has arranged various sporting events, including a tennis exhibition match between Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal last month and Sharapova and Venus Williams last year.

Hey Maria, Wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and may you have a very happy and successful new year. I am dissapointed that you are not playing BECAUSE I WILL BE IN KOREA and thought I would be able to see you play. Well better luck on my part next time. I only have a few weeks in Korea, but the timing was right. You had a wonderful year in 06 and wish you all the best in 07. Love you,

Disappointed, and sorry for Lindsay's new charge who will miss out on a good ride, you know. I wouldn't mind being bounced around. Sort of fun.
