“I just made it quick. I played very solid and took it to her from the very start.””

.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez speaks touring the State Department Store (GUM) at the Moscow Red Square, Monday April 2, 2007, with a photo of Russian top-ranked women's tennis player Maria Sharapova at left.

World number two Maria Sharapova will not make her Fed Cup debut for Russia later this month because of shoulder and hamstring injuries.
The 19-year-old had been set to represent Russia for the first time in the first-round tie against Spain on 21-22 April in Moscow.

"I am especially bummed about the Fed Cup," Sharapova told her website.

"I was looking forward to playing in Moscow and representing my country in a team environment for the first time."

Sharapova, who has also been forced to withdraw from next week's Family Circle Cup in Charleston, moved to the USA aged nine and has never played for Russia.

"I will be speaking with the Russian Federation soon about future matches," she said.

Sharapova added: "My doctors are confident that, with five or six weeks of rest, I will be ready for the next events."

by tiko on Apr 04 / 2007 / 11:08 AM |

Yes absolutely good for masha to have some injuries because this can stop her problem of gathering money and increase her potential of again implying her power in the tennis court..to her opponents.....a sigh of relief to all her fans who wanted something to happen a little bit with her so that she can think in a silence room that she is loosing her game...these next 5 to 6 weeks will help her to rgain the golden spot in no time.....MASHA I LOVE U FROM THE DEPTH OF MY HEART ......there is always some place for u in my heart.....

That's life. It goes up and down. Then, do not give up and never. Persistance!!! Envision your future and new strategies while getting a medical pause and some rest. Ton absence sera ressentie dans les prochains jeux. Taking care of yourself comes first!!!

That's life. It evolves in a cycle. It goes up and down and up again. Then, do not give up and never. Persistance!!! Envision your future and new strategies while getting a medical pause and some rest. Ton absence sera ressentie dans les prochains jeux. Taking care of yourself comes first!!!

is it coincidence, i cant believe why she will gets injured just before the start of french open.it happened last year and it happened again this year. god knows whats up with her

by YASHWANTH on Apr 04 / 2007 / 5:40 PM |

I can´t believe, why Maria will gets injured just before the Clay tournament and French Open like last year. I am a fan of you, when you are serious - but maybe its all about the money (Federation Cup in Moskau). I am afreid, that Maria already is Anna Kournikova number two. We know, shed had 18 single titles, but I dont think, she will get one single one in 2007. What´s the matter with you, Maria? Too many red carpet the last half a year. I never see Justine Henin ast the red carpet with stars around the world, especially in US. Come on - find the last seasons topform the next 4-6 wks.:'(
